PathPoint Staff Highlight: James

PathPoint Staff Highlight: James

At PathPoint, we aspire to make a difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities and disadvantages. One PathPoint employee in particular shares a unique perspective of giving back towards our cause because of their own personal experiences. James Devoe is this employee – and this month is celebrating 15 years of employment with PathPoint.

When asked about his background with PathPoint, James eagerly shared his life experiences. James grew up in Santa Barbara and at the age of 18 began using PathPoint’s Behavioral Health Services to navigate through his own mental health recovery process. James explained how PathPoint played a vital role in his recovery and that because of PathPoint‘s help, he then went on to college and eventually graduated with both his BA and MA.

“Mental health is not a death sentence” James shared. And although many people might view navigating mental health as a painful process, James recalls his time of recovery as a vital steppingstone into new beginnings.

Back in 2001, James began working at PathPoint and began giving back to the community, organization and people group that he had once identified with. In 2008 James was promoted to Case Manager for PathPoint’s Paths to Recovery Program and has impacted the world of mental health ever since. “I cherish the time I work with my clients. They understand that I am one of them. I might have different goals, challenges and have had moments of relapse, but that’s what makes me relatable.”

PathPoint Staff Highlight: JamesJames passion for the work he does was apparent through the interview. He couldn’t stop saying what a positive experience working at PathPoint has been and the joy he gets from investing in those who are on their own mental health journey. “I want to show people that even though I have a history with mental illness, that you can fulfill your dreams and do anything you put your mind to” said James.

“I’ve been a part of this organization for almost 30 years, including my own recovery process. It’s a great, supportive, caring and warm community” The impact that PathPoint has had on James life is immeasurable – it’s amazing to see an employee so dedicated and passionate about the work they do. It is even more amazing too, knowing the impact he has on those that experience similar life stages.

Congrats James on your work anniversary! You truly are an asset and an irreplaceable part of our PathPoint Family.
