Success Stories

Logan was a senior at Simi Valley High School when he enrolled in PathPoint’s Youth Networked Services. He had an IEP and was receiving educational support from his teachers and counselors. Logan had no work experience prior to enrollment in the YNS program.

During the course of active programming, Logan attended and participated in a personal banking workshop, where he learned about saving money to plan for the future, building a strong credit history, and balancing a check book. He also participated in a work readiness workshop, where he learned about employer expectations, interview techniques, resume building tools, the cost of living in California, and how to fill out state and federal employment tax forms. Logan participated in a career planning session with his case manager. Logan completed an interest profiler to identify and research three possible career options, as well as information about labor, salaries, education, and skills necessary for his career success.

While in the active phase of the program, Logan participated in a work experience internship, where he received guidance and support for appropriate work behavior and practices from his case manager and the internship manager. He successfully completed 150 hours of paid subsidized work and was able to use his experience to gain unsubsidized employment. Logan received support from YNS staff throughout his senior year and was able to complete the necessary credits to attain his high school diploma.

With support of his PathPoint case manager, Logan applied and enrolled in class at Moorpark College, where he is currently completing credits for his Associate’s degree. He has taken positive steps towards independence by earning his driver’s license and opening a checking account to manage his money.
